How to Have Eternal Life
- The truth is that everyone has sinned. We have all lived differently from the way God intends for us to live:
Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;
- Because everyone has sinned, we all deserve death:
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Because God loves us, He made a way for us to have eternal life:
Romans 5:8 - But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- We can be saved and have eternal life by making Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives:
Romans 10:9-10 - that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
- Confessing that Jesus is Lord is more than just saying His name. True faith is trusting in Jesus. It means that we do everything that He tells us to do, we believe all that He tells us to believe, and we think the way He tells us to think. This is what it means to call upon His name:
Romans 10:13 - For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
- Because of what Jesus did for us, we can have peace with God instead of being His enemy:
Romans 5:1 - Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;
Romans 5:9-10 - Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life.
- We can be free from the harmful influence of sin in our lives by living according to the Spirit of God instead of our flesh. This is the way to be in Christ Jesus:
Romans 8:1-2 - There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.
